Get set for white-knuckle Breeders' Cup ride as the stars come out at Del Mar
European interest will inevitably be focused on familiar stars like Tarnawa, Love and Space Blues, but day two of the 38th Breeders’ Cup is something to behold in its entirety.
Del Mar hosted the American celebration of horseracing for the first time just four years ago. The powers that be on the Breeders’ Cup executive were clearly pleased enough with that debut to give the San Diego venue a sequel so soon after, and that decision has been rewarded spectacularly with a spread of rare quality.
Granted, there can be a tendency to get intoxicated by the fervour that drowns the Breeders’ Cup – the brash, all-American frenzy that is doused in the flamboyant purple branding and bunting that is synonymous with the occasion.
