Gerald Mosse: I don't see any horse that can beat Enable in the Arc
Arc-winning jockey Gerald Mosse believes superstar mare Enable will prove unbeatable in her history-making bid in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday.
However, Mosse, who won France's most prestigious race aboard the Nicolas Clement-trained Saumarez in 1990, does not feel this weekend’s running is a top-quality running.
Mabs Cross and Sir Dancealot are two big-race mounts for Mosse on the card and he hopes to see Enable oblige in the highlight contest.
Mosse said: “When I look at the race, I don’t see any horse that can beat her. Racing is racing and anything can happen, but she has proved herself to be the best and it doesn’t look like a strong Arc.
“There is going to be a small field and there are top-class horses in the field but for me there is nothing else in the race like her.
“Not many horses can do what Enable has done and we already know she’s special. It’s nice to see champion horses keep going at the top level for many years so I wish her all the very best.
“I like champion horses and to see them win. Some people like to see champions get beat, but not me!”
Mabs Cross bids for back-to-back victories in the Prix de l’Abbaye and Mosse is confident she arrives in tip-top shape after a slightly below-par sixth in the Flying Five at the Curragh.
The Michael Dods-trained mare has to turn this year’s form around with Battaash, but Mosse hopes for a repeat of last year’s contest, in which Battaash finished fourth.
Mosse said: “Mabs Cross was a bit disappointing last time but the pace was not very strong and it didn’t suit her. She likes to be off the bridle then finish well and it went against her at the Curragh.
“This race suited her last year as they went very quick so I’m hoping for the same. She beat Battaash last year, so why not again this weekend! It all depends on the ground and the pace they go, but the last race in Ireland will have put her spot on for this.”
Sir Dancealot, trained by David Elsworth, was a fast-finishing fifth in the Qatar Prix de la Foret last year and returns to Longchamp on the back of a ready win in the Park Stakes at Doncaster.
Mosse said: “I hope it won’t be too heavy for Sir Dancealot. He’s an amazing horse and does everything right when conditions are in his favour as he loves the combination of good ground and seven furlongs.
“Last year we had a terrible draw, but hopefully on better ground and with a more favourable draw he can show up well.”
