Frankie Dettori hails 'my best year' despite heartbreak of Enable's Arc defeat

The latest chapter in the Enable fairytale might have ended with a galling defeat but Frankie Dettori has nonetheless hailed 2019 as the finest year of his riding career.

Dettori rolled into Santa Anita on Tuesday morning, bringing all of his infectious energy to bear ahead of a Breeders’ Cup meeting that arguably lacks any real star clout among the equine performers.

For racing, he has been the still point of the turning world for the past 25 years, and his enchanting charisma was evident in all its magnetic glory despite the primary goal for his season having gone so unceremoniously awry in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
