It was going to require something rather dramatic to keep Bob Baffert’s unapologetically suave return from ignominy by winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile with Corniche from being the headline story on Future Stars Friday. Boy, did we get dramatic.

Just as the sun was beginning to set on San Diego and the light was starting to fade, it all kicked off.

Charlie Appleby must be one of the calmest men on the planet, and that composure was evident as he lent on the Del Mar rail just below the winning post while the stalls handlers rescued Albahr from the horrible predicament he had put himself in before the Juvenile Turf.
