Early pace battle the undoing of The Platinum Queen in Juvenile Turf Sprint
Flying filly The Platinum Queen will be given another crack at the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes next year after a combination of factors put paid to her chances in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.
The Richard Fahey-trained two-year-old used up plenty of petrol early from stall 12 at Keeneland on Friday when she was taken on by a couple of US-trained runners and the early pace battle took its toll as she beat only one home, Tyler's Tribe, under Hollie Doyle.
The Platinum Queen, who did not appear to handle going around a bend for the first time in public, was unable to back up her thrilling success in the Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp last month.
