California Chrome is already the world's highest-rated horse but for his septuagenarian trainer Art Sherman the best is still yet to come.

The favourite for Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic is the undisputed star of the show and arrives at Santa Anita following an undefeated campaign that includes a Dubai World Cup and a stunning Pacific Classic that made Grade 1-winning rivals look like claimers.

"I think as a five-year-old he's just an awesome horse," says Sherman. "I get goose-pimples when I watch him run. I say 'wow, is this really happening'. He's just running fast and feeling good and enjoying himself, I can see the horse is really a happy camper.
