Sussex Stakes: confirmed runners and riders for Group 1 test
Royal Ascot winners Lord Glitters and Circus Maximus were among eight declarations for Wednesday's Qatar Sussex Stakes (3.35), the feature race on the second day of Glorious Goodwood.
Four of the eight Group 1 hopefuls are three-year-olds, with Aidan O'Brien's St James's Palace Stakes winner clashing once again with John Gosden's Too Darn Hot, who was third that day but landed the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat last time.
Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Phoenix Of Spain, sixth at Royal Ascot, also lines up, along with the Andrew Balding-trained Happy Power.
Lord Glitters faces just two of the rivals he defeated in the Queen Anne Stakes, with only Zabeel Prince and Accidental Agent – who refused to race at Royal Ascot – reopposing David O'Meara's six-year-old. I Can Fly is the only filly in the field.
Frankie Dettori is set to partner Wesley Ward's Maven in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes (3.00), where 13 runners are set to line up. The son of American Pharoah carries a 3lb penalty for landing the Prix du Bois at Chantilly last time.
Liberty Beach, an impressive winner at Sandown, also runs along with Tom Dascombe's seven-length Chester winner Dr Simpson.
Lil Rockerfeller will also look to repeat last year's success in the Unibet Goodwood Handicap (1.55). Neil King's eight-year-old has not run on the Flat since last year's emphatic 15-length victory in the 2m4½f event.
