King Bolete is unbeaten in two starts since joining Roger Varian. He has improved his overall career record to four from ten – and his official rating from 90 to 104 – but his final start for Luca Cumani was his only one at today's trip and he was very disappointing, finishing 13th.

If he is a new horse this year then the four-year-old, who beat subsequent Old Newton Cup winner Tawdeea last time out, merits another try at the distance. If last year truly exposed his lack of stamina, then he may prove a vulnerable favourite.
