A race that in a previous incarnation was called the Golden Mile proved just that for the gamblers who trusted Franklin D, trainer Michael Bell and "world's best jockey" Ryan Moore to deliver the jackpot payout.

After Franklin D showed with a Newmarket win that he was a handicap blot, was then dealt stall one and Ryan Moore was confirmed his rider, the ante-post odds plummeted to see the Medaglia D'Oro colt finish 7-4 favourite.

That made him the shortest-priced winner in the race's 30-year history, eclipsing the 5-2 Third Set was sent off in 2007.
