'If you fancy Delacroix you must like this 50-1 shot' - where does the Derby value lie after the Dante?
Our experts David Jennings, Robbie Wilders and Jonny Pearson assess the Derby picture now the trials are over

After Pride Of Arras ran out a surprise winner of the Dante, with favourite The Lion In Winter down the field, where is the value in the market for next month's Betfred Derby? Three of our experts have a view, and they don't agree
Lion now looks the value
By David Jennings, Deputy Ireland editor
I must have been watching a different Dante to everyone else. The Lion In Winter looked like a teenager attending his first disco for the first two furlongs – he was far too keen. He then proceeded to travel beautifully into the race and, while he wouldn't have won had he not been checked and subsequently nursed home by Ryan Moore, he would have finished a lot closer. And he was beaten only four lengths.
Aidan O'Brien has told us over and over again that it has been a massive rush to get him to York, and his interview with Rishi Persad on ITV Racing beforehand was fascinating. It seems like he has not been able to get stuck into him at home yet.

There are, of course, risks attached to the 6-1 now on offer about The Lion In Winter. He needs to chill and there must be a concern he will leave his race behind before it even begins. Will he even turn up at Epsom now?
If Delacroix is definitely the new number one and Moore's ride at Epsom, there must be a chance The Lion In Winter will go to Chantilly instead.
But my gut tells me you might see a different animal altogether in the Derby if he does show up. The ability we saw in the Acomb is still there and Moore's actions inside the final furlong of the Dante might be key when it comes to the horse's chance at Epsom.
Only two colts can win the Derby – Delacroix and The Lion In Winter. One is now three times the price of the other. That 6-1 is tempting.
If you like Delacroix then 50-1 Purview must appeal
By Robbie Wilders, the Ante-Postman
We saw a shake-up to the Derby market after The Lion In Winter’s Dante disappointment and Delacroix now deservedly heads the betting.
He has won two trials at Leopardstown in good style and must be considered the Ballydoyle number one. However, if you like Delacroix at 9-4 then Purview at a top-priced 50-1 must be on your radar.

Delacroix was always better placed than Purview in the second of those trials and that race was run at a steady pace. Given it was only Purview’s second start and reappearance, he is entitled to bridge the gap on the winner.
Dermot Weld gave us Oaks winner Ezeliya last season and Purview is his only entry in this season’s two Epsom Classics.
Underwhelmed by Pride Of Arras
By Jonny Pearson, Racing Post handicapper
Delacroix fully deserves his place at the head of the market, but he is a short price and doesn't appear to be value.
I was left feeling underwhelmed by Dante winner Pride Of Arras. The race was run at a modest pace and many of the runners were far too keen to do themselves justice. Pride Of Arras took full advantage, settling better than most, and was well placed to take advantage.
Damysus was more eyecatching, given he was far too keen early on and given too much to do from the rear of the field. With a stronger pace to aim at he would have been much closer to the winner, and I’d rather take 14-1 about him than 4-1 Pride Of Arras.
It is difficult to know at this stage which plans Aidan O'Brien's has for his Classic contenders, but if Lambourn goes to Epsom he can finish much closer to Delacroix than in the Ballysax, and a top price of 25-1 represents fair value.
Betfred: 5-2 Delacroix, 7-2 Ruling Court, 5 Pride Of Arras, The Lion In Winter, 8 Twain, 12 Damysus, 18 Lambourn, 20 Mount Kilimanjaro, 25 bar.
