Here are the horses who could hit bookmakers the hardest at Cheltenham
It is less than a week until the start of the 2020 Cheltenham Festival and ante-post liabilities are starting to build up for the bookmakers. Here are the horses who could hit the layers hardest.
Shishkin
1.30 Tuesday: Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle
As of now Shishkin in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle features in the most multiple bets at the festival, closely followed by Paisley Park, Envoi Allen and Tiger Roll.
Pat Cooney, Bet365
Runner-up at the last two festivals, Discorama has recently halved in price to 10-1 (from 20) for the Ultima. Having had wind surgery since last being seen over hurdles on Boxing Day, he has been well supported to kick-start another memorable festival for owner Andrew Gemmell.
Matt Hulmes, Betfred
Envoi Allen
1.30 Wednesday: Ballymore Novices' Hurdle
Gordon Elliott is the man we fear most heading to the Cheltenham Festival as he is responsible for three of our five biggest liabilities this year, all of which run on the Wednesday. If Envoi Allen wins the Ballymore it could all roll onto Tiger Roll and Aramax.
Nicola McGeady, Ladbrokes
The Big Breakaway
1.30 Wednesday: Ballymore Novices' Hurdle
We have laid a very large single on The Big Breakaway – he is our biggest loser in the Ballymore at the moment but that will of course change to Envoi Allen come race day.
Leon Blanche, BoyleSports
He was 25-1 for this before his latest victory, which came in the same race that Band Of Outlaws used as a springboard to success in this 12 months ago. Now down to 4-1 after sustained support, he is one of our worst results and if Gordon Elliott and/or JP McManus get off to a good start at the festival the gamble is likely to continue.
Ruairi Sterling, William Hill
Relegate
2.10 Thursday: Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle
Relegate has been very well backed for the Pertemps Network Final. Colm Murphy’s charge was 33s initially before finishing fourth at Punchestown after over a year off. The 14-1 afterwards has long gone and she’s into 7-1.
Paul Binfield, Paddy Power
Dan Skelton has a terrific record in this, winning three of the last four runnings — including with Mohaayed in 2018. Just 3lb higher this year we have laid a few sizeable bets last week. He is now vying for favoritism at 11-1 and is our biggest loser.
Ed Nicholson, Unibet
