Five questions that still need an answer
1 Will Moon Racer shoot for the stars?
With a number of leading hopes not running and no supplementary entries emerging connections will feel vindicated at putting the novice in the Champion Hurdle. Part-owner Bryan Drew is known to be enthused about going for the big one, but will Professor Caroline Tisdall be persuaded to ditch a one-time chance to win the Supreme?
2 Where will Neon shine?
Neon Wolf sits prominently in the betting for both the Stan James Supreme and Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdles, but trainer Harry Fry will not commit until he has to. The weather will be a factor in any decision over the unbeaten Grade 2 winner, who was an impressive winner of the 2m Rossington Main on soft ground at Haydock.
Last week connections of Let's Dance suggested the chance of landing a €50,000 could persuade them to aim for the Trull House Mares' Novices' Hurdle. But in yesterday's Racing Post Weekender Willie Mullins pointed out Let's Dance's recent wins have been at two and a half miles and the festival's newest race is over two miles, in which he also has Airlie Beach. She has entries in five races, including the OLBG Mares' Hurdle, Neptune and Albert Bartlett.
Last year's Neptune winner Yorkhill could have lined up in the Champion Hurdle but had embarked on a chasing campaign by the time leading lights Faugheen and Annie Power had been ruled out. Willie Mullins was not been tempted to switch disciplines, but he has left the option of the Racing Post Arkle open for the hot-headed JLT Novices' Chase favourite, whose fencing has not entirely been convincing. He could deliver the Grade 1 opposition to Altior the Arkle is otherwise lacking.
5 A Mullins mares' match-up in prospect?
The most versatile of any horse entered at the festival, Vroum Vroum Mag has no fewer than six options, three over hurdles and three over fences. She's highly unlikely to run in a chase, but she is Susannah Ricci's only chance to win a third Champion Hurdle after Limini was not supplemented. Sentiment may not be enough to sway connections with a defence of her OLBG Mares' Hurdle crown also to feature during weekend discussions. Limini has no other entry, but Rich Ricci said he would not be against running the pair against each other.
