Well-known punter and Racing UK pundit Dave Nevison recalls (with horror) the victory of 50-1 shot Joes Edge in the William Hill Trophy in 2007

Cheltenham is always a rollercoaster: as I said in my book, when you are up you are up, and when you are down you are down, but when you are both up and down, you are at the Cheltenham Festival.

After a fourth day was added, I became convinced the festival was about to change because the increased number of days means the strength of several races would be diminished, and therefore more favourites would win. In 2007, I thought this offered a massive opportunity to win on the spreads by buying favourites as well as selling SPs. I was right, too, just a bit too early, and while this has become a regular feature of my punting career, the first day that year was not the time to be trying it out.
