It was inevitable, yet incomprehensible.

It was only a matter of time before Aidan O'Brien became the big dog at the Breeders' Cup and, at precisely 12.28am your time in the early hours of Saturday, he edged past D Wayne Lukas and on to the magic number of 21. He did it without Precise too. Instead it was Gstaad who came to the rescue and became the history-maker in the Juvenile Turf in front of a crowd of 30,059 who wagered $6.2 million across the card.

It had looked like being one of those days for O'Brien. A day that began with a coughing Precise, who was forced to sit out the Juvenile Fillies Turf. He also saw his three fancied runners beaten in the Juvenile Turf Sprint. True Love had her heart broken straight from the stalls, Mission Central was never sighted and Brussels burst through the pack but couldn't get to Cy Fair.
