History beckons for Aidan O'Brien with his 'unique' star filly - and even a nightmare draw can't stop him smiling (outwardly at least)

It's all kicking off in southern California. It was always going to take something huge to take the limelight away from an icon of the sport who is about to become the most successful trainer in Breeders' Cup history and could even break his own world record for top-level triumphs this weekend. Well, they don't come much bigger than Frankie Dettori in this game.

This will surely be the final farewell for the world's most famous jockey – one last Breeders' Cup. Frankie is leaving Hollywood for good and he exits the stage at a time of world domination for Ballydoyle.

Aidan O'Brien should really be the front-page splash everywhere this week. With 25 Group 1s already tucked away this year, he needs only four more to smash his own world record of 28, which he set in 2017. Just one victory at Del Mar over the next two days will see him stand alone as the most successful trainer in Breeders' Cup history, surpassing the legendary D Wayne Lukas's record of 20.
