Nick Pulford catches up with some young riders who have history with the Post

Mia Biggs is on the road from Newmarket to Chelmsford racecourse when she is reminded of her first appearance in the Racing Post.

"Wow, that seems like a long time ago," says the young apprentice, who goes close to a third career victory on her one ride at Chelmsford, beaten just a length into third. It is another move along a learning curve that is both steep and exciting.

What seems like a long time ago to Biggs is her part in a Racing Post feature that focused on five young riders having a one-day training course with their ponies at the British Racing School. It was five years ago this month. In the interim Biggs, now 18, has gone from newly turned teenager to adult – a massive change in itself – and from pony rider to Flat apprentice.
