Anyone for tennis? Strawberries and cream? These are not really questions which should be asked by somebody who is attending the Open golf at Royal Birkdale, but I am missing the Wimbledon tennis championships.

My policy of betting only on golf and darts was amended a week before Wimbledon. I decided that for major sporting events of which I feel I have gleaned sufficient knowledge, I can occasionally break that rule if there is good reason to do so.

Being on holiday allowed me time to absorb all Wimbledon news in the lead-up to the All England Club action, and as every day passed I became increasingly convinced that Roger Federer was an absolute certainty for the men's singles.
