'When the horse won my husband shouted so much he lost his voice for four days!'

Kate O'Brien talks about her journey to Goodwood success with Call My Bluff

The road to us winning a race with Call My Bluff at Goodwood in August began with a good bed and an equally good breakfast in Lambourn more than two years earlier.

Horses have been a regular part of my life. I grew up with them and even did an equine sports therapy course with the late, great Mary Bromiley. That concluded in 1997 and was followed by getting a job as a research nurse.

Due to that career move I started concentrating on people not horses. However, the interest in horses and racing was always there, so much so that together with my husband Eamonn – also a nurse – I took a tiny share in a Racegoers Club syndicate that raced Some Day Soon with Jamie Snowden.
