'What would I tell my ten-year-old self? Eat a little less'
Leading Flat jockey James Doyle, 30, takes our weekly grilling
What advice would you give your ten-year-old self?
Probably to eat a little less, then perhaps I wouldn't have grown so much and been the height I am now. It would have made things a little easier.
What is your earliest racing memory?
My mother [Jacqueline] was a jumps trainer for many years and I remember we had a double at the Grand National meeting in 1994 with Meditator in a hurdle race and Nahla in the bumper. I had thought about becoming a jockey but after that day I knew what I wanted to do.
You have made a brilliant start to the Flat turf campaign, so do you see yourself as a contender for the Stobart Flat jockeys' championship?
I'd like to say yes. I have lots of support from various different trainers but I don't think you can really think about it until around Goodwood. I'll try to ride as many winners as I can without being silly. I'm quite tall and it's key I manage my weight well to get longevity out of my career.
