Paul Burch, 54, gives his thoughts on racing's broadcast coverage
When I began watching racing on TV the coverage provided by the BBC was rarely criticised – it was professional, informative and the horses were the main priority, not the amount of money placed on them, or the constant references to bookmakers.
The current Channel 4 coverage is well below that standard. There are too many mentions of betting and bookmakers – so many people watch racing for the thrill of seeing the horses, and their bets are put on well ahead of time anyway – and I feel the use of ex-jockeys hasn't been a total success. Top jump jockeys shouldn't be asked to comment on Flat racing, and vice versa. The tips provided seem only to serve to shorten horses in the market and there is too much emphasis in this direction in any case.
The Morning Line is not nearly as enjoyable as it used to be, it's just all about tipping and the format is tired. If ITV maintains a morning programme it should be more like a half-hour magazine show with one presenter, providing a round-up of the day's meetings, the going, and any interesting news.
