The world is his workplace. Brian Taylor checks his itinerary for the next few weeks. "New York, Miami, Chicago," he says. "Dubai, Los Angeles. Only thing is you don't collect many air miles in a freighter."

Racing is a global business and Taylor helps keep the wheels turning, shipping horses in and out of every racing jurisdiction, crossing time-zones with the sun. The son of the Derby-winning jockey of the same name, Taylor spent his youth in the weighing room alongside Lester Piggott, Willie Carson, Pat Eddery et al, but unfortunately grew too tall to follow in his late father's footsteps. A chance meeting got him a sales position with the BBA, and the right answer to a simple question cleared him for take-off.
