Trade body declares support for licensing system for affiliates

A House of Lords report recommended changes to the affiliate sector

The trade association for affiliates in the gambling industry has said it will support "in principle" the introduction of a licensing or registration system for the sector.

Affiliates were among the issues covered by the House of Lords Gambling Industry Committee report published last week, in which peers recommended that affiliates should be licensed by the Gambling Commission before they can enter into contracts with gambling operators.

Following publication of the report Clive Hawkswood, the chairman of Responsible Affiliates in Gambling (RAiG), said: "When RAiG submitted evidence to the Lords' committee we sought to give a fuller picture of the affiliate sector and to suggest that any regulatory gaps should be identified before a final decision was reached regarding licensing.
