Mark Johnston’s Dante winner Permian is a best-priced 14-1 for the Derby and has an each-way shout, although he was beaten in the Epsom Derby Trial by Cracksman, who was taken out of the Dante on the morning of the race due to the soft ground. Bookmakers expect the John Gosden-trained Cracksman to confirm the form in the Derby.

Cracksman’s stablemate Shutter Speed won the Musidora despite hating the ground according to Gosden and this filly by Dansili, whose best progeny are typically most effective when conditions are fast, is expected to bypass the Oaks for the shorter 1m2½f Prix de Diane at Chantilly.
