He loves it when a plan comes together. Tom George is not a member of racing's A-Team but he'd certainly like to be, and if his season continues the way it's been going recently then soon he might well be in that club.

Last month George trained 14 winners from his childhood home in the picturesque Gloucestershire village of Slad – Laurie Lee country for those who like their Cider – and that month-long riot of success has sent him surging up the table.
His previous best seasonal score of 50 now seems well within his grasp, he has A-list horses in residence, has heavyweight owners in attendance, yet still there is a sense of yearning about George, a restless yen for recognition.

When presented with the evidence he grins and says he hasn't become a better trainer overnight, but in the next breath mutters under it that he feels a little underappreciated.

Some soothing words from wife Sophie are met with the observation that it took a long time for him to be perceived as Tom George, rather than as John Edwards' son-in-law. Edwards was a renowned big-race winner, a heavyweight, qualities with which George's career has hitherto not been associated, but if a chip on the shoulder had once been part of his wardrobe it is not worn with such ostentation now. The plan is working, see.
