A mentor can be defined as either a noun or a verb:

Noun: An experienced and trusted adviser.
Verb: Advise or train (someone, especially a younger colleague)

On Wednesday it occurred to me that both of my mentors died in the month of April – Alan Ball unexpectedly in 2007 and John Marsden in an operating theatre seven years later.
