'I'll do my bit now, make my money and then get out. For people our age, we're making a hell of a living'
ARCHIVE: Harry Cobden talked to Lee Mottershead in April about riding through pain and becoming 'Hollywood Harry'

This interview with Harry Cobden was first published on April 12, 2025, and is being republished to mark his appointment as JP McManus's new retained rider in both Britain and Ireland from next season.
If you happen to be looking for a three-bedroom semi in Somerset, Harry Cobden could be worth contacting. The one he is preparing to sell has just had a fresh kitchen installed and the champion jockey has completely redone the driveway, replacing a water feature with a brand new Toyota Hilux.
Lest there be any doubt, the shiny pickup truck will not form part of any deal. Nor, for that matter, will the cardboard £200,000 cheque propped up in the corner of the large open-plan room where Cobden is making teas and coffees, one of which is for his hard-working driver Stuart Payne, who is currently mowing the back garden as part of his employer's efforts to make the property as attractive as possible.
