It's the World Cup final today – or tomorrow, depending on whether you're reading this on Saturday night online, or in print on Sunday.
When you're dealing with an internet column that appears on paper a long time after it's written, time becomes elastic. No-one can predict the future with certainty, especially when it's in the past.
Yesterday (or earlier today), it was 26C at York for the John Smith's Cup (thanks to the Weather Channel, assuming it's right). Just the sort of day when you might have felt like shrugging off your formal jacket and swinging along to the Knavesmire in just a collared shirt and tie.
