As recently as last week, there were murmurings that Willie Mullins hadn’t unearthed his usual star novice or leading Champion Bumper hope.
Such suggestions were shown to be greatly exaggerated at last weekend’s Dublin Racing Festival as Final Demand, Kopek Des Bordes and Bambino Fever thundered on to the scene with scintillating performances, evolving from reasonably promising talents to Cheltenham bankers.
Come the spring, the champion trainer always emerges with a cluster of exceptional young talent to supplement, and eventually take up the mantle from, his proven stars. But last weekend also saw those established Closutton giants roar.
