'Kauto Star did the same at his age and there's lots to come from him yet'

5g Secret Singer - Pour Le Meilleur

A half-brother to Black Corton. He's been a little bit disappointing to now but was suffering with a breathing issue last season, which we've sorted, and I was pleased with his second to Knappers Hill at Wincanton on Saturday. Black Corton took a while to come together and I'm sure this horse will keep on improving as he matures. We might look at a National Hunt maiden hurdle at Taunton in three weeks' time.

Another lovely novice hurdler. He made a striking debut over hurdles at Aintree and he'll probably have another run under a penalty next. I'm not going to rush any of them but I would certainly like to run one of these smart novices in either the Winter Novices' Hurdle at Sandown or the Challow Hurdle at Newbury in December. He's got a lot of potential and will make a lovely chaser in time.

I nearly didn't run him at Ascot at the end of last month because the ground was soft. He needs good, fast ground and is as high in the handicap as he wants to be. His enthusiasm didn't look great at Ascot but he's going to struggle in those types of races off his mark on soft ground. Last season he was running well in the Red Rum Chase at Aintree when he fell at the last and he'd won at Doncaster in the spring before that, so we could look at something similar later in the season.
