The fortunes of Rebecca Menzies continue on an upward curve despite the problems brought on the sport by the pandemic. When we first visited the County Durham operation two years ago there were 35 horses in training, but that number is dwarfed by the 55 currently at the yard, with more in the wings.

“We have streamlined our numbers during Covid and have slightly less in training now than we had at the start of the season,” Menzies says. “We were very busy in July but took a fairly ruthless approach and rehomed/sold horses we thought would struggle.”
