Few trainers shot out of the blocks after lockdown as swiftly as Tom Clover, who had a treble on the first Friday back and boasts a superb 38 per cent strike-rate since racing resumed. Followers of the young Newmarket handler are on very good terms with themselves as a £1 level-stake on his 43 runners this year is showing a £44 profit.
Clover is based at the historic Kremlin House Stables made famous by the late Michael Jarvis, father of his wife Jackie. He learned his trade under the tutelage of David Simcock, which he recalls as being a wonderful period of his life.
