Last season was Gordon Elliott’s best yet. Ultimately denied the title, he still enjoyed his most successful season with 193 domestic winners and €4,380,705 in prize-money.

His headline horses, spearheaded by Apple’s Jade, Labaik and Fayonagh, landed memorable victories at the Cheltenham Festival, where he was crowned top trainer for the first time with six winners.

However, Elliott plays down his achievements, and admits he was left “completely heartbroken” after Mullins wrestled back his crown on the final two days of the Punchestown festival.
