'Spindrifter was a quite remarkable record-breaking juvenile'

My favourite horse has to be the quite remarkable Spindrifter.

In 1980 he won 13 of his 19 races as a two-year-old and placed second five times. Ten of his victories came in succession, a British record for a two-year-old, and he also equalled the 20th century record of 13 wins set by the Barry Hills-trained Nagwa five years earlier.

Incidentally, the dams of both Spindrifter and Nagwa were turned out in the same field in Kilkenny since Joe Crowley, Aidan O'Brien's father-in-law, had bred them both.
