Speed thrills as Harry and Battaash end season in fine company
Among the fallout from Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot last week was the idea in some quarters that John Gosden has two horses in his Newmarket stable that are Arkle, Secretariat, Frankel and Muhammad Ali rolled into one – or two – in Cracksman and Enable.
The latter's stellar campaign – the chief highlight of the Flat season – means she seems set for top European honours this year, although it might surprise some to learn Cracksman's powerhouse display in the Qipco Champion Stakes elevated him to a Racing Post Rating 2lb superior to his stablemate – 131 to 129.
That figure is perhaps in line with some of the headlines the well-regarded colt generated before his coming-of-age performance, even if many thought pre-race the hype did not stack up with the substance.
