Skelton assistant Nick Pearce preparing for yet another busy weekend
Given that a job description is sometimes required when filling in forms, spare a thought for Warwickshire-based Nick Pearce.
When asked if he is an assistant trainer, stallion master, clerk of the course or point-to-point trainer he answers, "All of the above", before adding: "It has been a busy week."
Pearce's roles include assisting Dan Skelton, holding the position of stud manager at Alne Park Stud which is run by Skelton's wife Grace – and is home to stallion Dink – acting as clerk of the course at Shelfield Park, which stages a point-to-point on March 19, and handling five point-to-pointers. "I train them here at the stud," says Pearce, "and the staff [from Skelton's yard] come in and ride them at lunchtime. There are some good amateurs in the yard and it's nice to be able to offer them rides in point-to-points."
