As homecomings go, Tom Dascombe's return to Lambourn nearly got off to a disastrous start.
It was April 1 when Dascombe's lease on Uplands – the historic Listed establishment made famous by the legendary Fred Winter – began and the trainer decided to let his two German pointers stretch their legs. It was a decision he rued eight hours later when they were finally caught at Henry Candy's Oxfordshire stables.
Still, the hounds' escape provided the backdrop for a brief trip down memory lane.
