The Racing Post 50 to follow: the best horses to note for the upcoming season
Allaho
Willie Mullins
It took a while for connections to get his trip right, but when they did Allaho put up the performance of last season’s festival, obliterating his rivals from the front with a display of sheer power in the Ryanair Chase. He’s a huge horse who may again take a couple of runs to reach peak form, but expect him to be a major player at the spring festivals.
Bass Rock
Sandy Thomson
This lightly raced five-year-old built on his promise with a comfortable handicap hurdle win at the Scottish National meeting at Ayr and is the type to keep on improving for Borders trainer Sandy Thomson, especially when sent over fences. He has already shown he is versatile in terms of ground conditions.
Bavington Bob
Ann Hamilton
Every inch a staying chaser, Bavington Bob will graduate to fences on the back of three straight wins over hurdles. The fact that he doesn’t do a great deal after hitting the front means he starts his new career on an eyecatching mark of 117, just 12lb higher than when sent handicapping. He’s a 130 horse in the making.
