Squeeze on bookmakers in later years of decade has been passed on to punters

Before the end of this column, there will be some predictions as to how the betting landscape might change during the 2020s. In preparation for that, we should look back on how things have evolved during the decade that is coming to a close.

Changes on the surface have been fairly minimal. The exchanges were a fact of life by 2010, as were odds comparison tools. The latter allowed certain firms to price up early and it has been possible to get on the night before for longer than ten years.

Mention of getting on strikes at what has perhaps been the major change in recent years. The closure of betting accounts is consistently punters' main bugbear.
