No account of modern Lambourn would be complete without acknowledging the contribution made by the village’s greatest champion of all Peter Walwyn.

Affordable housing, the Lambourn Trainers Association and its famous open day are just part of the story. He has been the place’s pulsing heart and ever an evangelist for its cause and the welfare of those within it.

Walwyn is now 83 and it is extraordinary to think that his much-decorated father fought in both the Boer War and on the Western Front, but Walwyn has been the doughtiest of battlers for his adopted home.
