There are high-profile festivals aplenty in September, with the St Leger, Ayr Gold Cup and Cambridgeshire in Britain and a certain Irish Champions Weekend stacked with Group 1s.

Don't forget the smaller tracks, though, with Listowel's week-long harvest festival and Yarmouth's three-day Eastern festival among other highlights in a busy month.

SPRINT CUP, HAYDOCK: The top six-furlong sprinters head to Haydock for the Betfair Sprint Cup, with the classy undercard including the Old Borough Cup, Superior Mile and Ascendant Stakes. Saturday, September 5 (Tickets)

ST LEGER, DONCASTER: Classic success is on the line in the Betfred St Leger, which headlines the four-day meeting on Town Moor. SEPTEMBER STAKES, KEMPTON: Fancy seeing Constitution Hill in action? The former star hurdler steps up to Group 3 company on the Flat in the September Stakes and could take on Brigadier Gerard second Gethin on an afternoon billed as William Hill Wild Wild West raceday. MILL REEF, NEWBURY: This juvenile contest, named after Ian Balding's stellar Derby, King George and Arc winner Mill Reef, is guaranteed to provide future pointers and could feature the Michael Dods-trained Arapaho Gold, whose Gimcrack victory took his record to 4-4. CAMBRIDGESHIRE, NEWMARKET: This three-day meeting culminates in a fantastic Saturday card featuring the £200,000 Cambridgeshire Handicap, the first leg of the "autumn double", and two Group 1s in the Tattersalls-sponsored Cheveley Park and Middle Park for juveniles. Scotland

AYR GOLD CUP: Scotland's premier Flat race is one not to miss with £180,000 in prize-money on offer for the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup. Ireland

IRISH CHAMPIONS FESTIVAL, LEOPARDSTOWN/CURRAGH: The Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes headlines the day one card at Leopardstown that features two other Group 1s, while there are a fantastic four top-level contests on the second day at the Curragh, including the Comer Group International Irish St Leger and the Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes. HARVEST FESTIVAL, LISTOWEL: This week-long festival includes action under both codes, with the €200,000 Guinness Kerry National taking centre stage over fences on the fourth day. Sunday, September 20 – Saturday, September 26 (Tickets)

IRISH CESAREWITCH, CURRAGH: The Curragh stages a two-day meeting billed Autumn Racing Weekend, with the Goffs Million, Europe's richest juvenile race, and Beresford Stakes the highlights on day one and the €500,000 Irish Cesarewitch for staying handicappers topping the day two billing. Bargain hunt: this month's best offers for racing tickets

* An early-bird weekend ticket for both days of the Irish Champions Festival at Leopardstown and the Curragh (Saturday, September 12 – Sunday, September 13) is available to buy for €50. Given the quality of the racing on offer, this is sure to prove popular.

* Up for a night under the lights at Southwell? The Nottinghamshire track is offering entry to two floodlit all-weather fixtures (Thursday, September 17 and Thursday, September 24) for just £10 apiece.

* Sligo hosts its popular student raceday (Wednesday, September 30) and is offering an early-bird ticket for students priced at €15 until September 23 for the seven-race jumps card.

Out of the ordinary: five eye-catching events

JAZZ FEVER: Lingfield hosts a jazz night (Thursday, September 3) with live music by The Boogie Bumpers after racing. You can also support a good cause, with the meeting run in support of air ambulance charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS).

MAGIC MONDAY: There is the rare attraction of a Group race on a Monday in Britain with Windsor hosting the Weatherbys-sponsored Group 3 Winter Hill Stakes (Monday, September 7). Last year's winner Silawi landed the Grade 1 Canadian International on his next start.

BEACH BONANZA: It's time to get the flip-flops out! Laytown's annual meeting on the beach (Thursday, September 10) is one for the bucket list and will once again draw a big crowd, having regularly attracted 5,000-plus racegoers in recent years.

FESTIVAL FUN: Yarmouth's Eastern festival (Tuesday, September 15 – Thursday, September 17) offers three top days at the seaside track, with the Listed John Musker Fillies' Stakes the highlight on day two and ladies' day taking place on the final afternoon. Megan Nicholls and Stephen Darbyshire are on hosting duties and you can even take on Trina Gulliver in a nine-dart challenge.

OKTOBERFEST: Do you like German beer, bratwursts and Bavarian bites? Haydock is the place for you, then, with the Merseyside track hosting an Oktoberfest raceday (Saturday, September 26) that will also include the roaming brass band Let's Oomparty.
