Gamstop, the industry-wide self-exclusion scheme for online operators, is in its final testing phase and is expected to be launched in the next few weeks.

Self-exclusion has been much in the news in recent days, with the Gambling Commission imposing a £1 million penalty on Sky Bet for failures in their dealings with self-excluded customers, with hundreds able to open and use duplicate accounts to gamble and thousands more sent marketing material and prevented from securing their account balance.

It had been hoped that Gamstop could be introduced by the end of last year but it was delayed to give operators more time to prepare for its implementation.
