Ruth Quinn: Frankly Darling shows the innate desire to be the leader of the pack

The BHA director is sweet on a filly who got the season off to a flying start

In reshaping this unusual Flat season we're trying to give young horses opportunities to develop so they can fulfill their potential. So it's good to be able to pick a couple who have been fast out of the gates in Frankly Darling and English King

I loved the way Frankly Darling won at Newcastle on the season's opening day. She stretches out low to the ground and it's a great sign, it shows an innate desire to lead the herd.

I'm delighted we rescheduled the Lingfield trials and English King was spine-tingling in the Derby Trial. Ed Walker may have the real deal there.

It's difficult to pick only one Jessica Harrington filly but Albigna was tough and determined in winning the Marcel Boussac, while I suspect the first three in the 2,000 Guineas are high class so I can't leave out Pinatubo. I love this little horse and he has relentless power.

Every list should have one lightly raced three-year-old trained by the genius that is Sir Michael Stoute and mine is Highest Ground, by Frankel out of a Sunday Silence mare.

Word is getting out about Brentford Hope and I hope he's the horse the talented Richard Hughes deserves.

Battaash, a three-time winner of the King George Stakes at Goodwood for Jim Crowley, has the King's Stand Stakes on the opening day of the Tote Ten To Follow competition, as his first target this season

We don't know how good Logician is yet. He has the pace of a top mile-and-a-half horse but has stamina too. It will be fascinating to see which direction John Gosden takes him while keeping him away from Enable or Stradivarius.

Which brings me to the queen of the turf. It's wonderful Enable is racing on at six and wouldn't it be great if she can right the wrong of last year's Arc defeat. First up, though, the Eclipse on July 5. What a weekend that's going to be after the Derby and Oaks the previous day.

Staying with mares, I have a soft spot for Enbihaar. She did well to win the Park Hill after slipping on the bend and had a rough time in the Prix de Royallieu. She could become a leading stayer.

At the other end of the trip spectrum it has to be Battaash. The best sprinters live life on the edge and when he's on his A-game there's nothing that can go with him.
