'Rob had a dream scenario tracking Naval Crown' - George Baker on the July Cup

Newmarket's July Cup, which was won in style by Alcohol Free, and the exploits in the saddle of Rob Hornby come under the spotlight


The winning time in Saturday's July Cup was 1min 9.47secs and the Platinum Jubilee, won by Naval Crown at Royal Ascot, was 1min 12.17secs, which is two and a half seconds or so quicker, so it is a different test.

Naval Crown was rapid into stride at Newmarket, while Alcohol Free was mid-pack, on the wing of the field, but as they settled into a rhythm, from the start to the three-furlong point, Rob Hornby was able to have a marker on Naval Crown.
