The effect of new responsible gambling requirements brought in by the Gambling Commission in the spring was laid bare by Gala Coral as they unveiled their third quarter results last week, writes Bill Barber.

The company had already flagged up in their interim results in June that there had been technical instability in the implementation of 'reality checks' that help players online see how much they are losing or winning and the amount of time they have been playing.

Last week more detail emerged as chief executive Carl Leaver said online net revenue growth had been held back by "teething problems" with the player protection measures.
