A new era began at Kirkistown on Saturday when Jamie Sloan saddled his first winner with his first runner, the Noel McParlan-ridden Gallyhill in the first division of the four-year-old maiden.

Jamie has taken over at the County Antrim yard of Ian Ferguson, who was one of the major figures in Northern Irish racing and point-to-pointing from long before I was riding.

I always enjoyed riding for Ian and he gave me some of the biggest moments of my career. In 2007 I rode his veteran hunter chaser Joe Blake to win the Champion Hunters' Chase at Punchestown, and I also rode him to win his final race, the Champion Hunters Chase at Stratford.
