The performance of the day came from Valmy Baie in the Open. In fact, you will hardly find a more remarkable display through the entire season since it looked for a while as if the David Christie-trained gelding was going to take no part.

I’ve taken a look at the video again and can confirm Barry O’Neill’s mount gave the opposition a head start of around 14 seconds.

He set off a distance behind. But once he got going, he absolutely took off, with the result he was in front by the eighth of 16 fences.
