O’Neill heads fantastic five nominated for HRI Awards

The five nominees in the point-to-point category for the 2017 Horse Racing Ireland Awards have been announced, spear headed by first-time champion point-to-point jockey Barry O’Neill.

The Wexford native, who received his first HRI Award nomination last year, ended the 13-year stranglehold of Derek O’Connor and Jamie Codd to claim the national title in a season which also saw him pass through the 400 winner mark.

Codd, a former three-time winner of the HRI Award, is also among the nominees having only narrowly been denied a title double last season, losing out to O’Neill, having also claimed a first champion track amateur title.
