Luke Murphy back in front thanks to Gahan and Greenrock Abbey
Luke Murphy made his long-awaited return to the winner’s enclosure when he guided the Denis Murphy-trained Greenrock Abbey to win the Dennison Commercials four-year-old auction maiden at the seaside County Down venue. The success of the €10,000 Tattersalls Ireland August Sale purchase over the British-bred Monkstreet was the rider's first since November last year.
“My brother Paul Gahan and Denis Murphy own him," trainer Liam Gahan said. "We liked this lad at home and he will head to one of the sales now.”
Having had to settle for second with Monkstreet, compensation followed for fellow Wexford raider Cormac Doyle when he saddled Oscar Elite for a convincing success in a large field for the Albert Bartlett five- and six-year-old geldings’ maiden.
