This week began on a disappointing note for the Lismore Harriers point-to-point committee when it was confirmed their fixture at Dungarvan had failed an inspection and was cancelled due to unsuitable ground conditions.

There was great anticipation ahead of the meeting, which was scheduled for Sunday, as it was due to mark a return of the fixture after a two-year absence from the calendar.

Always a big draw for spectators, Sunday’s fixture was also due to mark a return to the original layout which had for so long been associated with the venue and was popular with racegoers who had the perfect viewing point on the sloped bank in the home straight.
