John of Gaunt form looks up to scratch - and an improving filly should be competitive when stepped up in grade

Despite disappointing efforts from the front two in the market, the form of the Betfred John of Gaunt Stakes looks right up to scratch as Ten Bob Tony continued the fine run of Ed Walker's stable with a career-best Racing Post Rating of 115.
A first victory since making a winning reappearance in a conditions race at the Craven meeting last year, the newly gelded four-year-old saw this out well after tracking the solid early pace.
Unraced on faster than Saturday's officially good ground, his near future may well lie on the continent, with his best previous run having come when runner-up in a soft-ground Group 2 at Longchamp in September. That run came after a 118-day break, and with a best-fresh profile there's no guarantee he'll build on this next time.
